About Us
The ingredient list is in order, and that order is the whole story
Every cosmetic product sold here carries an INCI list — the ingredients, in Latin and standardised English, on the back of the pack.
It isn't alphabetical and it isn't random. By law, ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration, from most to least.
That one rule tells you more than any claim on the front.
A product advertising argan oil, with argan oil fourteenth on the list, contains argan oil somewhere below one percent. It's there. It's doing almost nothing.
The first five ingredients are usually eighty percent or more of what's in the jar. For most creams that's water, a humectant, an emollient, an emulsifier and a thickener — and that's fine. It's what a cream is. But it means the hero ingredient on the front is often somewhere down in the decimals.
The rule that lets marketing hide
Here's the part almost nobody knows.
The descending order only applies down to one percent. Below that, ingredients may be listed in any order the manufacturer chooses.
So an active present at 0.05% can be placed immediately after one present at 0.9% — and the list looks as if they're comparable.
Fragrance is the usual marker. Where "parfum" appears, everything after it is almost certainly below one percent. If the ingredient a product is named after sits below the fragrance, you now know roughly what you're buying.
We publish the full INCI list on every product page, not a selected highlight.
Concentration, where it's known
Some actives have published concentrations at which they've been studied. Where a manufacturer states the percentage, we state it too.
Where they don't, we say we don't know rather than implying we do. A product page that names an active without a figure is telling you it's present, not that it's doing anything.
The symbol on the back you've never looked up
The small open-jar icon with a number and an M — 12M, 6M, 24M — is the period after opening.
It's how long the product stays stable once air and skin contact have started, and the clock begins the day you open it, not the day you buy it.
A 6M product opened in January is past its useful life by summer, regardless of how much is left. Preservative systems have a working life, and past it a product isn't dangerous so much as no longer doing what it was formulated to do.
Where a product carries a PAO, we state it on the page so you know before you buy whether it suits how often you'd use it.
What we don't do
Make medical claims. A cosmetic works on the surface. Anything claiming to treat, cure or alter a medical condition is a medicine, regulated differently, and isn't what we sell. We describe what a product does in terms you can hold us to.
Claim we formulate it. We don't develop or manufacture anything. We select products, we read the ingredient lists, and we tell you what's in them.
Inflate prices to discount them. The price is the price.
Manufacture urgency. No countdown timers, no "only two left" when there are two hundred.
Overclaim. No cream will transform your skin. What a well-made product does is smaller and slower, and anyone promising otherwise is describing something a cosmetic can't legally be.
Ask us before you order
Wondering whether a formula suits your skin, what a particular ingredient is doing in it, or how long it lasts once opened?
Email us. Tell us what you're using now and what you're hoping to change, and we'll answer honestly — including when the honest answer is that nothing in our range is the right fit.
We'd rather give good advice than process a return.
Before you break the seal
Cosmetics sealed for hygiene reasons can't be returned once the seal is broken. That's a statutory exception, not our policy, and it applies to most of what we sell.
You can examine a product without opening it — check the packaging, the ingredient list, the size and the PAO. That doesn't affect your right to return it.
If you're unsure, ask us before you open it. We'd rather answer a question than see a product become non-returnable.
